Martin Michael Launches Journalist Ibrahim Samura Foundation for Democracy and Good Governance

Managing Director of Mercury International, Mr. Martin Edmond Michael has on Thursday June 6 2019 launched the Journalist Ibrahim Samura Foundation for Democracy and Good Governance at the Harry Yansaneh Memorial Hall, 56 Campbell Street in Freetown.

The Foundation launching came exactly a year after the death of the fearless journalist, Publisher and Executive Editor of the New Age newspaper who in 2018 passed-away at the 34 Military Hospital, Wilberforce in Freetown.

In his avowal, the Mercury International said Democracy and Good Governance is difficult to purse as an independent body in modern day citing Sierra Leone, adding that individual or organisnation advocating for Democracy and Good Governance are always targeted or been branded.

“Today it is important a Foundation has been set up in relation to someone who died in pursuant of Democracy and Good Governance. As journalists and individuals advocating for Democracy and Good Governance don’t worry about been targeted because it will always be,”

– Mr. Martin Edmond Michael said and advised that the best form of criticism is self-criticism which he said is what Democracy is all about.  

The Mercury Managing Director ends by sending words of condolence to the late journalist family as he further pledged the sum of Le 10,000,000 (Ten Millions Leones) to the Journalist Ibrahim Samura Foundation for Democracy and Good Governance Foundation.
